A New Pitcairn Constitution

THE CONSTITUTION OF THE PITCAIRN ISLANDS

In March 2012 the Pitcairn islands – Pitcairn, Henderson, Oeno, Ducie – received a new Constitution. Features of the new Constitution that distinguish it from the islands' preceding Constitution are: a fundamental human rights chapter; a constitutional provision for the Pitcairn Islands' Council; an Attorney General; a guarantee for the independence of the public service; the establishment of an independent financial audit; and Provision for an Ombudsman for the Pitcairn islanders.
