Books and Ebooks

Books are excellent secondary sources that provide analysis and context to the topics you are researching. The books you will find through these links are sometimes available to read full text online. If you find a book that you cannot access, let your librarian know. We can provide the book for you in another way, provided you ask early enough that you have time to wait for material to arrive.

EXPERT TIP: Always search the library catalog first. The library is your fastest, easiest, most reliable access to research-appropriate books on your topic.

Adventist Encyclopedia
The SDA Encyclopedia used to be a print reference book. It is now a website where you can search for introductory articles about people and places important to Adventist history. Use this site as a jumping off point to introduce yourself to your topic before deeper research.
Adventist Pioneer Library
The Adventist Pioneer Library provides PDF access to historic Adventist books that are in the public domain. Books here are listed first by author last name, so if you are researching a particular Adventist author, this is a good place to access their works.
Ellen White Writings
All of Ellen White's writings are published on this site and are keyword searchable.
GC Archives - Adventist eBooks
Over 100 classic Adventist texts are available on this site via PDF download. They are listed alphabetically by title with no further identifying information. If you aren't sure where to start, ask your professors for suggestions.
Library Catalog
Use this direct link to search for physical books in the library. Many Adventist history texts are not available as ebooks, so it is worth your time to search your keywords in the catalog. The PUC Library holds many, many books about Adventist topics, people, events, doctrines, controversies, attitudes, traditions...you get the idea. For help accessing physical books while off campus, contact your librarian.
A Mountain, a Pickax, a College
This history of Pacific Union College was written in the 1950s by Walter Utt, a graduate of PUC and later chair of the History Department. The book was last updated in 1996. It tells the story of PUC from 1882 to 1996 with lots of pictures, facts, and a useful timeline. Use control-F to keyword search the text of this ebook to find particular concepts.
