PITCAIRN ISLAND ENJOYING NEWEST EDITION
ANGWIN (Napa County) Calif., March 27, 2007—Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific Ocean, long concerned about its dwindling population, is rejoicing these days over its newest addition, a baby girl named Adrianna Tracey Christian, who is only the second child born on the island in the past 21 years.
Adrianna is the daughter of Pitcairn residents Randy and Nadine Christian. She traces her ancestry back to Fletcher Christian, who in 1789 led the now famous mutiny against Captain William Bligh on the ship H. M.S. Bounty. After the mutiny, some of the mutineers made their way to tiny, remote Pitcairn Island where for nearly two decades they hid away from the outside world.
Adrianna, born at 7 pounds, 12 ounces earlier this month, is the sister of Emily Rose Christian, born on Pitcairn on September 14, 2003. Emily was the first child born on the island after the birth of Andrew Randall Christian who was born on Pitcairn 21 years ago.
New Zealand physician Alastair McDonald was the attending physician at Adrianna's birth, along with island nurses Darralyn Griffiths and Meralda Warren. In March 2005, Adrianna's brother, Ryan Randy Christian, was born to Nadine Christian in New Zealand. Also a member of this family of Christians is Adrianna's other brother, Bradley Dean Charles Douglas Christian, who, like Ryan, was born in New Zealand.
"We're a very proud family of six now, " says Mrs. Christian. "A very proud daddy, and three very proud big brothers and sisters."
