PITCAIRN: POPULAR CRUISE SHIP DESTINATION

                        ANGWIN (Napa County) Calif., February 20, 2005—Pitcairn, the tiny South Pacific Ocean isle made famous by the “Mutiny on the Bounty,” is becoming an increasingly popular destination for cruise ship visits.

                        In a report to the Pitcairn Islands Study Center, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the islanders report that for the first time in the island’s history two cruise ships arrived at the island on the same day on February 18.

The ships – the Saga Rose and the Princess Danae – arrived just hours apart, each with just under 500 passengers aboard.

                        “Both ships ferried their passengers ashore in the ships’ own tenders,” reported Pitcairner Mike Warren. “It was a hustle bustle day for everyone but we managed to cope as best we could.

                        “The Saga Rose only planned to stay for half a day and the Princess Danae the remainder, so there were minimal problems in coordinating the ship-to-shore visiting.”

                        There are just under 50 men, women and children on Pitcairn, so the entertaining of hundreds of visitors was a real challenge.

                        With seven additional cruise ships currently scheduled to visit the island in the months ahead , the Pitcairners are looking to increased business in which they sell or barter individually made curios, fruits, vegetables, dehydrated foods and such tourist staples as tee shirts and baseball caps to island visitors.
